Gradient grey-to-black knit, with suede and plastic detailing around the neckline and a thin buckle belt at the nylon waist panel. The Undercover Fall/Winter 2007 collection was Jun Takahashi's response to fashion's growing awareness of climate unpredictability — he adapted NASA-derived technology into lightweight furs with climate-sensitive linings (cooling in heat, warm in cold) and waterproofed knits and wool coats for unexpected downpours. The collection was playful and sporty, with a bit of signature Undercover subversion (razor-blade paillettes) kept in. All done so clever and charming. This season marked the brand broadening its appeal from being a minority-taste art cult to something that is playfully accessible in an unusually smart way.
